Matter is everything around you atoms and compounds are all made of very small parts of matter.

Different types of matter can be described by their mass. In science matter is the term for any type of material. Masses molecules and atoms. Matter material substance that constitutes the observable universe and together with energy forms the basis of all objective phenomena.

The mass of an object is the amount of material that makes up the object. Matter takes on different forms depending on how the atoms are arranged. Anything that takes up space is called matter. A molecule is the smallest particle of matter into which a body can be divided without losing its identity.

A mass of matter is any portion of matter appreciable by the senses. At a minimum matter requires at least one subatomic particle although most matter consists of atoms. Planet earth is made of matter and so are all the stars planets and moons in the universe.
